Volunteers in Service to America

The VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) programs of Western New York (WNY) AmeriCorps fight the injustices and causes of poverty that face individuals and communities in New York State.  VISTA members increase capacity within non-profit organizations, committing to a year of service in which they not only fight poverty but live it, not only lead the community but are a part of it, and not only change the world but are changed by it.

WNY AmeriCorps VISTA

This program, WNY AmeriCorps' flagship VISTA initiative, serves low-income communities across the Greater Buffalo region. Members build capacity within partner organizations under two impact areas: one is financial development, with projects that facilitate individual asset development, financial literacy and community economic development, and the second is independent living, with projects that promote equitable housing and living-wage employment opportunities.

Serve New York

ReNU Niagara

This program, WNY AmeriCorps' newest VISTA initiative, mobilizes VISTA members throughout the State of New York to serve with youth-focused agencies. The goal of Serve New York is to strengthen the communities of New York State through service in two impact areas: one is education, with projects focusing on youth mentoring and education for at-risk youth; and the second is financial development with projects that revitalize communities by increasing capacity in partner agencies.
